NARRATE Project’s 4th General Assembly: Defining a Course for Resilient Manufacturing

Lyon, INSA Lyon – The NARRATE Project, a European project dedicated to enhancing the resilience and sustainability of manufacturing and industrial production, recently concluded its 4th General Assembly at INSA Lyon. This event brought together all project partners to discuss progress, share insights, and collaboratively shape the future of smart manufacturing in Europe.

Kicking Off with Collaboration: The Pre-Assembly Workshop

Before diving into the General Assembly, the consortium hosted the NARRATE Workshop – Advancing Digital Manufacturing on May 26, 2025. This hybrid event, held at INSA Lyon and online, gathered a diverse group of industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers. More than 30 people joined the dialogue and synergies, laying a strong foundation for future developments in smart manufacturing, AI-driven decision-making, and supply chain resilience. The day was particularly focused on the revolutionary potential of Generative AI in manufacturing.

Day 1: Laying the Foundation for Resilience

The assembly kicked off with a focus on understanding and mitigating disruptions in the manufacturing landscape. Partners engaged in in-depth discussions on Disruptions, Resilience Strategies & Risk Assessment (WP2/WP9), exploring innovative approaches to identify, analyse, and address potential threats to production processes.

The afternoon sessions shifted to the area of Dissemination, Communication & Exploitation (WP7). Partners strategized on maximizing the project’s impact, ensuring that the knowledge and tools developed within NARRATE reach a wide audience of European ecosystem actors.

A significant portion of the first day was dedicated to the Technical Architecture & Platform Requirements (WP3/WP4), including discussions on Intelligent Logistics & Warehousing solutions. Experts presented updates on the project’s technologies, such as the SMN Knowledge Model leveraging Digital Twin Technology, AI-driven visibility models, and the Intelligent Manufacturing Custodian. These updates promise to provide manufacturers with new levels of insight and control over their operations.

Day 2: Driving Innovation and Practical Application

The second day built upon the momentum of the first, with a focus on practical implementation and real-world impact.

The morning began with a deep dive into the Intelligent Manufacturing Custodian & AI Platform: Implementation & Assessment (WP6), showcasing the significant progress in bringing these innovative tools to life and raising a lively discussion on different matters related. The focus then shifted to a dynamic Progress Session with Pilots (WP5). This exchange brought together the technical team and the other project partners to assess the real-world application of NARRATE’s solutions and gather feedback for further refinement.

The afternoon started with a critical session on Coordination Insights, covering progress reports, review meetings, and essential discussions around the project roadmap, risks, and data management. The day ended with a final review of the architecture requirements, ensuring that NARRATE’s solutions move forward.

A Collaborative Vision for the Future

This 4th General Assembly of the NARRATE Project is a proof of the power of collaboration in driving innovation. By bringing together experts from across Europe, the project is defining a path towards a more resilient, sustainable, and competitive manufacturing landscape. The insights and progress shared during these days will shape the next phase of the project, as NARRATE continues to empower European industry to thrive in the face of evolving challenges.

Stay tuned for more updates on NARRATE project developments!
